The Harmony Therapy Trust

The Harmony Therapy Trust has a long history with the Swale Business Awards, having been a finalist several times and previously winning a Customer Service and Commitment Award.

Founded in 2010, The Harmony Therapy Trust is a charity providing NHS-accepted therapies free of charge to Kent residents suffering from cancers, multiple sclerosis and other life-limiting, life-altering illnesses or long-term conditions.

Gill Ball, a Trustee at The Harmony Therapy Trust gave a brief overview of the charity’s history: “Dawn Cockburn, our founder, suffered a family tragedy and realised there was a huge need with regard to additional support services cancer patients and people with life altering conditions receive in Kent. Dawn wanted to give people in Kent help and support at a time they are most in need of it. She gathered together a small network of therapists who were eager to become involved and the charity was founded. The charity has grown enormously over the last few years and we want the charity to continue to grow and to be able to help as many people as possible.”

The charity utilises a network of almost 100 self-employed therapists and a team of dedicated volunteers in order to take care of its clients. This huge support base is essential, as the last several years have seen a huge increase in referrals from GPs, Hospitals and Hospices across the country.

Gill summarised why she felt that the work being done by The Harmony Therapy Trust was so important: “We are a Swale charity that puts people at the heart of everything that we do and is passionate about supporting people when they need it most. I think we deserve to be recognised at the 2019 awards as we are a charity that has a business focus, and strategic plans for direction to facilitate continued growth. We have a flexible approach and are therefore able to be proactive in our outlook. We value everyone connected with the charity whether their contribution is big or small everyone matters, we know that we couldn’t survive without our support team - a totally dedicated team who are committed to the work that we do.”
