The 2019 Swale Business Awards are officially underway and we’re absolutely delighted that our first entrant is a sole trader who is entering the awards for the first time.
Jennifer Silver runs Jigsaws Childminding in Sheerness. As the name suggests, Jigsaws provides flexible childcare to families in Sheppey. Flexibility is Jennifer’s mantra as she strives to be as accommodating to parents as possible. She explains: “I provide flexibility for parents by providing minimum hourly contracts rather than having to pay for full sessions and hours that aren’t needed. For example, if shift workers had to pay for full sessions due to varying days it wouldn’t be worth them working!”
Jennifer goes out of her way to provide the children in her care with a variety of activities to keep them entertained such as trips out to zoos, farms, libraries, gymnastics clubs and swimming. Jigsaws looks after a range of children from as young a six months up to eleven-years-old.
For Jennifer this is both a job and a vocation. “I go out of my way to provide an educational, fun, friendly, and most importantly safe home-from-home environment for children. I provide flexibility for parents who would otherwise not be able to afford to work and unlike many other child-minders I offer holiday only provision.”
Jennifer decided to enter the Swale Business Awards after being nominated by a parent. She discussed why she felt that her business stood out: “I believe the key to a good business is providing a service to clients that meets their needs, that serves a purpose and goes above and beyond to do this. I believe that I meet these criteria. All the children are happy here, enjoy all the activities and love sharing with their parents about their day. Parents feel happy because their children are happy and safe. I provide what parents need and go above and beyond to help if I can.”
