Our next entrant was a successful part of a larger organisation, that saw so much success that the decision was made to allow it to grow and flourish as its own business. Originally part of JD Cooling Systems Ltd, the South East branch of the business now operates as a separate entity – JD Cooling South East. The business is located on Kent Science Park and is continuing the hard work that made it so fruitful from the beginning.
Sarah Webb is a Business Development Executive at JD Cooling South East, and one of the team of twelve of whom work there. She gave an overview of what the company does: “We provide services for Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration, be that Air Conditioning; Controlled Atmosphere Storage; Blast Cooling; Fruit Storage; Ripening Rooms; Barriers or Doors. Essentially, we look after the cooling requirements of any business be that cooling an office space or cooling medications, foods, drinks, fruits, vegetables and so on, at every stage from produce being picked, stored, right through the packing stage to sale.”
JD Cooling South East has invested substantially in bringing brand new, genuinely innovative technology to the UK. They are now the exclusive UK wide supplier of the award winning ‘Softripe’ fruit ripening system. The process ripens the fruit in such a way that it thinks it is still on the tree. By doing this it enhances the flavour, increases shelf life and ultimately reduces food waste. ‘Softripe’ currently ripens bananas, mangoes & avocados.
Sarah explained that her business’ commitment to Research and Development makes it stand apart from competitors: “None of our competitors contribute to the innovation of the industry in the same way that we do. Whilst manufacturers are constantly looking to improve their products there are very few Refrigeration companies, if any, whom will look to invest in the process themselves. This means that our clients can be sure that they will benefit from the latest news and updates in the industry because we are a part of the R&D team. All of our Refrigeration services are carried out by in-house engineers, which ensures we have overall control of our clients’ equipment and our engineering standards are always exceptional.”
Finally, Sarah explained why she hoped her business would be shortlisted at the 2019 Awards: “The real reason we would love to win an award is to say a huge thank you to our whole team for their outstanding efforts. We try our upmost to show our appreciation at every opportunity, but the recognition of the prestigious Swale Business Awards and the Gala Dinner evening would give us an opportunity to tell others how fantastic they are too and to celebrate our successes together.”
