The next entrant into the 2019 awards is Beauty Academy South East – Swale’s own beauty therapy training centre. Founded three-years-ago by Tania Gough, BASE offers high-end services that rival those found in London, but maintains a local charge rate.
Tania spoke about what training she offered and whom her training was for: “We offer high end beauty therapy training to the highest industry standards. We offer courses to entry-level students; practising therapists looking to increase their repertoire and refresher courses alike. Currently, we provide around 25 courses run on regular intervals including: eyelash extensions, body massage, waxing, makeup, spray tanning, manicure, eyebrow waxing and tinting, aromatherapy and sugaring to name a few! There are other beauty schools in the Kent area, but many are lacking the variety of courses that we are able to provide. Courses are open to anyone who is interested in seriously pursuing a career in beauty therapy.”
Tania feels that her courses provide a thorough grounding and ensure that both theory and practical knowledge is covered to enable the best beauty therapists to leave her facility. From a standing start in 2016, Tania has spent the last three-years raising both her own profile and that of BASE to the point where she saw a 258% increase in students from 2018 compared to 2017.
Tania has big plans for the future, which she outlined: “I am going to continue concentrating on marketing BASE and retaining the students that come through my door. I am building my reputation as a ‘high end’ training academy and aim to be seen as the best beauty training establishment in the South East, continuing to ensure that I stay across all new treatments that are available and increasing my portfolio of courses and services that I provide to students and clients alike. I have recently been awarded a HAB Industry Trainer of the Year award, which was an absolute honour to receive.”
Finally she spoke about why she felt that this year she should be recognised at the Swale Business Awards: “My number one care is to the students coming in to the building and ensuring I give them a great start in the industry. Each student that attends one of my courses is made to feel welcome and at ease from the moment they enter my academy. By keeping my classes small and intimate, I ensure the relationship between student and tutor is both personable and professional, offering the latest advice and industry related knowledge. Many of my students already live in the borough of Swale, and it’s great to entice others to the area for training, but in December 2018, I actually had a lovely lady travel to Sittingbourne to train with me from Denmark!”
