Spartan Medical Services

Our next entrant is a business that can truly be the difference between life and death. For a year now, Spartan Medical Services has been providing first aid training as well as specialist medical cover for niche events/clients. This could include providing teams of Doctors, Paramedics and Nurses to support first aiders at events and coordinate the medical response in the event of a major emergency.

Based in Faversham, Spartan Medical Services is owned by two frontline paramedics, who have over 45 years of pre-hospital experience between them.  One of the owners is Dave Marshall, who discussed what made his company stand out: “Spartan Medical Services works all over the world in the public and private sector. Our expertise is based on extensive work on ambulances, response cars and the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service. All of this experience has taught us that basic things like good airway management or good quality CPR make the biggest difference to patients. All of which can be taught and practiced by first aiders without any kit. We are passionate about delivering that message to the community and hope that our extensive background gives us credibility over our competitors.”

As a new business, one of Spartan Medical Services’ biggest challenges has been making people aware of who they are and what they do. In order to tackle this, they have been working hard to get their name out there and meet potential clients face-to-face. This has included offering free CPR training to the local community. They are also in the process of fundraising to provide a Public Access Defibrillator.

Dave discussed why the service that Spartan Medical Services offered was truly a difference maker: “My co-director Dean was taking part in a well known military endurance event. Unfortunately one of his fellow competitors collapsed at the finish line due to cardiac arrest and they died. The first aiders were doing their best but were unfortunately out of their depth. Dean stepped in and took control, organising a team and ‘running’ the arrest. They got ROSC (return of spontaneous circulation) after a few rounds of CPR, and then called in the local Helicopter Emergency Medical Service team who took over care. This person is fully recovered and back with their family. There is no doubt in my mind that Dean saved this persons life, and perfectly demonstrates the value of having the right people on the ground for when the worst case scenario becomes a reality.”
