Rhubarb Business Services

Over the course of the last decade, Rhubarb Business Services has developed an impressive proposition. The now 30-strong Kent Science Park-based business services other businesses – specifically those committed to high quality communication with their customers. Rhubarb works with these businesses to help them understand the specific needs and desires of their customers; to improve their customer journeys and to help them to deliver a phenomenal customer experience.

Adam Groom, Head of Commercial at Rhubarb discussed what his business could offer in more depth: “Ours is a managed service business model that combines technical and professional know how with our own proprietary software platform. The product part of our managed service is our customer engagement platform, which is called RHUBAS, which can be tailored to optimise our clients’ engagement and communication with their clients. This includes SMS texts, Email, iVR, online as well as via voice calls and traditional mail. The platform has communication applications across all industry sectors, including both B2C and B2B markets. Originally designed to deliver customer contact and customer engagement our platform has been further developed to include powerful business intelligence analysis, CRM and database solutions. Using Artificial Intelligence technology, our unique and real-time dashboards and business intelligence modules enable our customers to analyse huge data sets and also enables us to analyse free form text and spoken words to derive valuable insights that put our clients in control of their customer’s journey and experience.”

With a loyal team of 30 employees, Rhubarb rewards this loyalty with a commitment to doing their utmost to retain staff. Every single team member has an individualised training and development road map. “The sky is the limit at Rhubarb when it comes to developing new skills to be able to deliver more effectively in the roles here,” Adam explained. “We encourage our teams to take a broad view of the training that they need to help in their development as retaining staff and them gaining experience only enhances our relationships with our clients. Our outlook is that it is better to develop our staff and risk that they leave than not to develop them and risk that they stay.”

This commitment to their staff is paying off, as the average length of service in some teams is approaching five years – no small feat for a company that began as a start up ten years ago. Rhubarb also recently implemented an initiative entitled Project 100, where they asked staff to tell management what they felt needed to change or be improved within the business. The task was then to implement these changes to the business and process within 100 days. The feedback from this initiative was overwhelmingly positive, with staff commenting that they felt included, valued and inspired.

Adam expressed his desire to see his staff’s hard work rewarded at the Swale Business Awards: “Having reached some significant milestones over the last year, we feel that Rhubarb deserves to win an award. 2018 is our tenth year and having reached a significant turnover barrier and completed the development of our own proprietary software platform, we are coming into our own. We feel strong about our medium and long term plans and having grown to this point in Swale, we see ourselves as a Swale business for the future.”
