For the last six years, the Ickle Bites Cake Company has been building its reputation as a one-stop shop for cakes for all occasions. From weddings to christenings; baby showers to corporate events, Ickle Bites pride themselves on being able to provide the perfect bespoke celebration cake.
Bridie Earney, owner of Ickle Bites Cake Company, discussed what challenges her business had faced over the past year: “The biggest challenge was opening up a high street shop. I started the business working from home in 2012 and decided last year to take the plunge and offer the service on the high street, which currently isn't available in Sittingbourne. It took a lot of preparation and hard work to get the shop ready and suitable as a food premises. I had a grand opening where I had the Sittingbourne carnival princesses attend and cut the ribbon to officially open Ickle Bites.”
Since opening the high street shop, Bridie’s business has gone from strength-to-strength, partly due to having much more visibility than her online competitors, allowing Ickle Bites to get in front of customers who perhaps wouldn’t see it otherwise. Bridie plans to capitalise on this by expanding the business further, employing more staff and eventually getting bigger premises.
Bridie discussed why she had entered the 2018 Swale Business Awards: “I feel Ickle Bites deserves an award as its taken a lot of hard work and long hours to achieve the level of trust and respect from clients and potential customers and keep the ones who come back to me every occasion they have. I started the business when my daughter was little and have built it to become stronger and stronger each year. I started it not knowing a single thing about baking and decorating cakes. It’s been an enjoyable, rewarding journey.”
