Re-entering the Swale Business Awards this year is No Place Like Home, a highly personalised, private companionship and care service for senior residents, which last year won the Customer Service and Commitment Award. Since winning the award last October, the business has gone from strength-to-strength. The following month they achieved Excellence level in the Kent Healthy Business Awards and more recently were asked to contribute to a new national guide for care companies on how to deliver Outstanding care.
Managing Director Alison Carter discussed the journey that she had been on with the business: “I set the business up after witnessing first-hand the challenges experienced by my mother in sourcing high quality, tailored support and care at home for my father. In the four years that we have been operating our staff team has grown from an initial four employees to a team of 24. We have always aimed to provide an ‘exceptional’ quality of companionship and care. This was cemented when, through hard work and determination, we gained the highest rating possible from Care Quality Commission last year, making us only the second ever service in the ME Postcode area to achieve an overall service rating of outstanding out of a total 450 local services that are CQC regulated.”
The goal of No Place Like Home is to help their clients be prepared for and to make the most of later life, focusing on quality experience and enjoyment. They aim to carefully craft support around the wishes of the individual – this might include escorted trips out as well as help in the home or, if needed, personal care. They provide respite care in the home, recuperative support following a spell in hospital or end of life care. They also specialise in supporting individuals living with dementia.
When asked why she felt her businesses deserved to be recognised at the 2017 awards, Alison commented: “No Place Like Home deserves to win an award for a number of reasons: Firstly, our service is all about helping people 'make the most of later life' with a focus on enjoyment and quality experience. We aim to re-position in people's minds what companionship and care, and, indeed, later life, should be all about - that is a world where old age is lived to its full potential. We would love this vision and these positive messages to receive a higher profile in the media and the awards are a tremendous way of making this happen! Secondly, and most importantly, we would like to win a Swale Business Award to celebrate with our clients the unique services we are providing for elderly residents in our local area and to give recognition to our staff for the fantastic job that they are doing.”
