Relaunched in 2016, Nim’s Fruit is producing delicious snacks right here in Swale. The 100% natural air-dried fruit and vegetable crisp producer offers a selection of sumptuous options including crisps made from apples, pears, pineapples, melons, oranges, kiwis, beetroots, carrots, parsnips, peppers, courgettes, tomatoes and cucumbers.
CEO Nimisha Raja described the process for creating her unique flavours: “We buy the best fruit and vegetables, as much from British farmers as possible, and then wash, thinly slice (without peeling anything except pineapple) and dry them using our unique air-drying process. The end result being beautiful looking and tasting crisps made using just one ingredient therefore have absolutely nothing added to them whatsoever and which still retain much of the original goodness of the fruit and veg.”
Being based in Swale has been a huge help to Nim’s Fruit Crisps, as Nimisha herself explains: “Funding is always crucial. We were lucky enough to be located in Kent where there is a huge amount of support from local government. It also helps that we produce our crisps here in Britain, as ‘Made in Britain’ is a brand in itself and one that is recognised and respected around the world for high standards and quality. When it comes to innovation, especially in food, the rest of the world look to the UK for the next big trend. I am so proud to be a British manufacturer!”
Nimisha has big plans for Nim’s Fruit, with more exciting products in development including the recent launch of Nim’s Kids, the first ever range of fruit and vegetable crisps especially for children.
When asked why she felt that Nim’s Fruit should be Swale Business of the Year, Nimisha commented: “Having invested all I had (including the coffee shop I used to run and my home) into setting up a 10,000 sq ft, BRC accredited production factory in Kent, me and my small, but perfectly formed team continue to make something that no one had ever seen using a unique air-drying method that preserves the taste, colour and nutritional content of the original fruit. It takes a huge amount of commitment, passion and dedication to bring to market an innovative product. Nim’s is right on trend with what both consumers and retailers want. I like to think the passion and dedication permeates into my team who understand that the success of the business is attributed to them, as much as anything else, and so winning this award would give recognition to the hard work and commitment made by us all. The award would also bring our company and products to the attention of more retailers which in turn is another endorsement for the team.”
