When it comes to overcoming challenges within a business, few companies in Swale could compete with the difficulties faced by Beauty Spot over the last year. The Faversham-business, which provides customers with high-end beauty treatments, suffered a significant fire sixteen-months-ago. After being advised that their West Street salon would be up and running again within three months, they found themselves operating from a temporary salon for fifteen months whilst ongoing repairs were made.
Finally back in their premises, Proprietor Trina Chalmers Taylor spoke about the difficulties that the business had faced dealing with the aftermath of the fire. “When the fire happened we relocated to the Alexander Centre in Preston Street and managed to set the temporary salon up in 6 days. It was only ever supposed to be temporary but we ended up being there for fifteen months. When our salon was finally fully refurbished we moved in a day, set up and started trading in the afternoon. This was only possible thanks to the determination, organisation and a dedication of our fabulous team.”
Despite the setbacks caused by the fire, a loyal customer base has helped the business remain buoyant. A customer told Trina: “the service you provide is so good I would sit on a crate if that was all you had.” Within a week of being back at their West Street premises they already had a huge waiting list for appointments!

Trina thinks it is because of their longevity and how they have overcome such adversity over the last year: “The Beauty Spot deserves to win because we have celebrated being in business for 25 years whilst in the middle of a recovery. We have proven we are a successful business that is not going to give up even after a significant fire. We remained solution focused during the most difficult time a business could ever face, with strength, determination hard work, strong leadership and an amazing team who believed it would all come right. Which after 15 months it has and we are home stronger and better for the experience.”
