Anyone with a sweet tooth will be particularly interested in the latest business to enter the 2016 Swale Business Awards. The Sweet Hut, a sweet shop based on the Isle of Sheppey, serves tea, coffee and cakes; as well as a vast selection of sweet treats including candy, chocolates, locally produced fudge and homemade toffee apples. There is even a milkshake bar, where customers can custom-build their own milkshakes.
Proprietor Paul Weeks discussed his vision for The Sweet Hut: “we provide our customers with quality products, served from a nostalgic setting with first class customer service. The Sweet Hut is a traditional sweet shop that will evoke many happy childhood memories for older people and give younger people memories to look back on in years to come. We stock a vast range of sweets that are not always seen everyday in the large retail stores and garages, including freshly made candy floss and American candy.”
The business has embraced social media as a means to build up its customer base; utilising the shop’s impressive Facebook following to promote special offers and raise awareness of special events. These special events have included Christmas carol concerts, live music, Easter fun weekends, Punch and Judy performances and classic car shows.
So why does The Sweet Hut deserve to be Swale Business of the Year? Paul offered his thoughts: “A huge amount of time, dedication and passion has been flooded in to The Sweet Hut and we have a strong drive to continue to make the business a success. As a family who had always lived in Swale, we also feel we have a duty to make Swale, and more specifically The Leas, an enjoyable place to visit. In addition to this, we have created a unique business that people are motivated to return to again and again.”
