Providing free NHS approved complementary therapy, The Harmony Therapy Trust have been helping those suffering from life-altering illness such as cancer, MS, MD, MND, COPD and Parkinson’s since the charity was founded in May 2010. Now in its seventh year of operation, The Harmony Therapy Trust utilises a network of self-employed therapists to deliver holistic therapy sessions such as reflexology, reiki, IHM, massage, hypnotherapy, and counselling.
Rita Couzins, Financial Trustee at The Harmony Therapy Trust discussed how her organisation has developed over the last seven years: “When we first started up in 2010 we had 9 referrals to us. In 2015 it was 255 and halfway through 2016 we have already received 200. We now have over 45 employees and have spread the word of what we do here across Kent and beyond, and now that people know what we do here they are sending patients to us on a daily basis. We are also frequently asked to give presentations to interested community groups, such a Macmillan Cancer Support Groups, the Women’s Institute and Lions Clubs.”
The Harmony Therapy Trust have a Training School providing workshops and lectures for therapists to maintain their CPD points and to learn other techniques and disciplines. They aim to ensure all referrals are not only accepted but also placed with a therapist within 24 hours. The Trust collaborates with local schools and colleges with a view to educating and encouraging students to consider therapy as a future career path in view of the NHS adopting a cohesive policy in integrated Health Care.
Rita discussed why she felt that her organization should be recognized at the Swale Business Awards: “As far as we are aware there is nothing similar to that offered by The Harmony Therapy Trust across the county. We keep our overheads to less than 10% of our income, allowing us to ring fence money for charity. We have a fantastic team of local therapists who go that ‘extra mile’ to help client-patients and we constantly receive testimonials from client-patients acknowledging that they are receiving therapy at an uncertain time in their lives and that The Harmony Therapy Trust supports them and puts them on the road to ‘wellness & wellbeing’.”
