Operating in Faversham since 1992, Space Saver Storage is the UK’s largest independent storage centre. Offering both commercial and domestic storage solutions to customers throughout East Kent, Space Saver Storage boasts 1,200 individual storage units plus 20,000 sq ft of dedicated archive storage.
Business has been booming in recent years, with Space Saver Storage maintaining a 90% occupancy rate. Rather than be complacent, the company continues to capitalise on this success and has big expansion plans already in motion.
Managing Director, John Burgess, commented “Over the last year we have invested a large sum of money to upgrade our site, including creating the UK’s first under cover drive-through facility to meet the growing demand for self-storage and refurbishing our oldest warehouse – increasing the number of units available to rent by 20%. We are also planning on launching an additional two sites within the next five years and will be extending our reception area to showcase the packing materials available to customers.”
Obviously security is a key concern for customers who are leaving valuable possessions with Space Saver Storage. The secure site is monitored by 24-hour CCTV to give customers additional peace of mind. And customers are evidently happy with the service they receive, as referrals and repeat business comprise of a large portion of the business.
Space Saver Storage’s employees are also a key factor in their success. In fact, the business can offer a powerful statistic about its staff – they have not had an employee leave since 2004! Staff receive rewards for longer service including private health care, staff discounts given on all goods and services and a performance-led bonus scheme. Flexible working hours are also available to suit school hours and part time workers.
John discussed why he felt Space Saver Storage should be recognised at the Swale Business Awards: “In 1992, the family run business started life as a removal and storage company but soon recognised the growing need for residential and business storage. At the time, self-storage was a new concept, and although the industry had seen an explosion in the US, it was considered a brave move in the UK. Since then the business has adapted and evolved, overcoming challenges but always putting its customers first; introducing site improvements and providing add-on services in order to enhance the overall customer experience. We are confident that our pricing remains competitive – so much so that we don’t use gimmicks or promotions to entice customers to the facility and we have never increased the price for anyone in store.”
