Making people’s designs become reality is what Riggers Gallery do on a daily basis. The bespoke handmade freestanding furniture business makes everything from bookcases to kitchen islands. Appealing to customers looking for singular, “one-off” pieces of furniture, the Riggers’ team consists of a diverse range of talent including a blacksmith, a lighting specialist, a CAD designer, a bevy of artists and furniture restorers. All in all there is over 60 years of carpentry and cabinetry experience between the team.
Creative Director Kate Arthurs manages the team and deals with all enquiries. She discussed what her customer base was looking for: “One of the reasons customers return to our company is the full process service. As our pieces are built in our workshop we send pictures and updates to our clients. We have had significant positive feedback on this approach to showing our customers their vision becoming reality. Recently, we have had an influx of people who have purchased new build properties with an open-plan living and kitchen area. We have been commissioned to not only provide valuable storage but to aid in zoning the living areas while incorporating eating and working surfaces.”
Kate and her team promote the fact that customers can get furniture custom-made and of a higher quality than from high-street shops, supported by a strong ethos of customer service. Riggers offer a colour-match service to suit existing décor in the customers’ home along with a made to measure service so that everything fits precisely. As the business grows the team are adding to their range and introducing their own exclusive designs to the market.
Kate discussed why she had entered Riggers Gallery into the 2016 Swale Business Awards: “We have a fun loving, great bunch of people who want to make the best stuff they can for our customers and I know the recognition of winning an award would make our team extremely proud. They work incredibly hard and adore taking the road less travelled. We work with local people, promoting each member to get the recognition for their work as they deserve. We love a challenge and our attitude is always ‘yes we can’. You want a Stegosaurus-shaped bookcase? Let’s do this!”
