Based in Faversham, No Place Like Home delivers highly personalised, private companionship and care services for senior residents living in Swale, Canterbury and the surrounding rural areas. Established in 2013, the company has grown rapidly over the last three years and now employs 24 members of staff.
Alison Carter founded the business in response to challenges experienced by her mother, when it came to sourcing high quality, tailored support and care at home for her father. Alison discussed her goal as Managing Director: “Both personally and professionally, our objective is to help our clients be prepared for and to make the most of later life, focusing on quality experience and enjoyment. We carefully craft our support around each individual’s wishes – this might include escorted trips out as well as help in the home or if needed, personal care. We are also able to provide respite care at home, recuperative support following a spell in hospital or end of life care.”
Working in such an emotive area means that finding the right calibre of staff can be extremely challenging. In order to reach the right people, Alison has utilised social media and face-to-face networking, with word-of-mouth referrals being a huge element of the recruitment drive. Finding the right staff is crucial, as unlike similar businesses, No Place Like Home offers clients longer visits so that their Personal Assistants have time to talk to really get to know them. This is a huge step away from the transactional nature of the relationship many of the company’s competitors offer.
Alison’s hard work and commitment have paid dividends, as she not only says she wants to provide exceptional care but has backed this up! The business was recently awarded the service rating of “Outstanding” by the Care Quality Commission – one of only two providers in the ME postcode area (out of 450 health and community services) to achieve this recognition.
Alison discussed why she felt that that her company deserved to be recognised at the Swale Business Awards: “No Place Like Home deserves to win Swale Business of the Year 2016 for a number of reasons. Firstly, our bespoke support service is all about helping people ‘make the most of later life’ with a focus on enjoyment and quality experience. Our aim is to re-position in people’s mind what companionship, care, and indeed later life, should be all about – that is a world where old age is lived to its full potential. Secondly, we have successfully delivered what we set out to achieve in terms of providing a unique and exceptional quality support service and have had this recently validated by Care Quality Commission’s rating of ‘Outstanding’ and also in the wonderful 150+ compliments received from our clients, their families, staff and other partners over the past year. Finally, and most importantly, we would like to win a Swale Business Award to celebrate with our clients the unique services we are providing for elderly residents in our local area and to give recognition to our staff for the fantastic job that they are doing.”
