Shop Manager and Owner Sylvia Lawrence spoke about the challenges the shop has faced during its seven-year history. “As with any retail business, there are always difficulties in the marketplace. For example, the recent Brexit vote and resultant drop in the value of the pound has had a direct impact on wholesale costs. However, I think as a business we are very good at adapting to survive. You only need to look at the number of our competitors that have closed their doors forever over the last few years. We have not only survived but have grown and flourished as a business.”
Country Brides attracts Bridal Parties from all over Kent through their doors, and finds that many Bridesmaids come back when they are Brides themselves! Part of the reason for their popularity is that they invest in a diverse range of gowns catering to all sizes and budgets. A perfect example of this is that they are currently creating a new range of short/vintage gowns and accessories, which will be unlike anything sold in other bridal shops in Kent.

Sylvia suggests: “We are both a family business and one of Swale’s longest running retail specialist clothing shops. We offer fantastic Customer Service to all our visitors and do not differentiate between customers regardless of their budget. We have continued to survive and prosper even in the difficult times and are able to adapt when faced with enormous challenges. Our bridal studio is friendly and down to earth and this is illustrated by the fact that we attract people from all over Swale and Kent.”
