From science parks to shopping centres and schools to factories, a Sittingbourne firm has been at the heart of keeping them bird and pest free since 2008.
Bird and Pest Solutions is a finalist in this year’s Swale Business Awards.
The company was set up by David Green and originally run from his office at home on Sheppey.
It specialises in coming up with innovative methods of controlling birds, pests and wildlife in an ethical and environmentally-friendly way, which includes using birds of prey to scare away other birds.
Seven years on and it now employs a team of five full-time employees, with two more part-time, including an apprentice.
Its numerous clients include Kent Science Park, Sittingbourne Community College, Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham and Eurotunnel.
Mr Green said a dramatic growth in the business had seen it recently relocate to a unit on the Eurolink.
“We work hard to demonstrate to our customers that we are an ethical bird and pest control supplier,” he said. “We are innovative and always looking for new environmentally-friendly additions to our business model.”
The firm has been involved in a programme using imitation eggs to reduce nuisance seagulls on commercial buildings and results from a five-year study will be made into a report for Natural England and the pest industry.
Staff are kept up to date with the latest industry methods thanks to comprehensive training courses.
Other innovations include a monthly newsletter for customers and the company regularly appears in the British Pest Control Association’s Professional Pest Controller magazine.
Supporting the community is a big priority and Mr Green has taken a leading role in planning a new skatepark for Sittingbourne.
The business has also worked with Natural England to help four young peregrine falcons fledge on Sheppey.
“We take an active interest in the local community and are dedicated to ensuring we protect the wildlife surrounding the pests we treat,” added Mr Green.
